Akin (2015)

adjective
of similar character.

An exploration of unconventional cycling apparel for women.
To reinterpret items of clothing typically perceived as difficult, inappropriate, or impossible in which to cycle, such as long dresses and full skirts, and enable them for the freeing practice of bike commuting. The project was named Akin to celebrate the camaraderie of the cycling community; the collection was titled 'There are many like it, but this one is mine' for the bond that each cyclist builds with his or her specific bicycle.

Inspiration took from hot air balloons, parachutes, and vintage show planes.
The visual elements played into not only the colours and silhouettes of the garments, but also into the pattern cutting.
